Upper Nile State Government Condemns Security Tensions in Malakal

Malakal: Emmanuel Garjiek

The Government of Upper Nile State has strongly condemned the recent security tensions caused by what it described as undisciplined forces in Malakal over the past three days.

In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication, the state government also denounced an attack on joint operation forces that occurred on Wednesday night, which left several soldiers injured and resulted in the killing of one member of the National Security Service (South Sudan).

The statement, signed by Information Minister Peter Ngwojo Akwiny, called on all security organs to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could undermine stability in the state.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and urged the public to refrain from spreading hate speech and misinformation on social media.

It also expressed regret over the loss of lives and pledged to hold those responsible for looting, killings, and acts of terror against civilians accountable and bring them to justice.
