Central Equatoria Governor Discusses Development of Livestock and Fisheries Sector with National Minister

Juba – Al-Wadi Newspaper

The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has held talks with the National Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec, on ways to enhance and develop the livestock and fisheries sectors as part of efforts to support South Sudan’s national economy.

The discussions took place during a meeting held on Monday at the Governor’s office in Juba, where both sides reviewed development plans aimed at improving livestock production and strengthening fisheries resource management at both state and national levels.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, the Governor reaffirmed his government’s commitment to advancing the sector, calling on the national ministry to support the organization and modernization of livestock activities, particularly in cattle farming and meat exports to international markets. He also revealed plans to establish modern fish storage facilities and processing factories to boost exports.

He further highlighted plans to organize youth, women, and men—especially in Terekeka County—into cooperative societies to enhance their participation in productive activities. He noted that climate change has become a growing challenge affecting the sector, necessitating the construction of water reservoirs in northern and western parts of Terekeka to ensure sustainability and regulate livestock movement.

For his part, Minister Onyoti Adigo stated that his visit also aimed to congratulate the Governor on his reappointment, emphasizing the importance of establishing modern slaughterhouses and fish processing facilities to commercialize the sector.

He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting the establishment of auction centers and a northern slaughterhouse to attract investors, and called on the state government to allocate land for these projects, in addition to improving transport infrastructure to facilitate trade.

Both sides expressed optimism that stronger coordination between the national and state governments would contribute to the development of the livestock and fisheries sectors, ultimately boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods across the country.
