Abyei – Al-Wadi Newspaper
The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has strengthened protection measures in the southeastern areas of Abyei following a recent attack in Abiemnhom, located in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State of South Sudan, about eight kilometers from Abyei.
Reports indicate that the attack displaced hundreds of civilians, most of them women and children, who fled to Abyei seeking safety, leading to heightened security tensions in the area.

In response, UNISFA peacekeepers swiftly deployed to the area to protect civilians and intensified security patrols in an effort to prevent further attacks and maintain stability.
The mission stated that it is working closely with Abyei authorities and local leaders to help ease tensions and restore calm, in coordination with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

On the humanitarian side, the Ghana Level II Hospital in Abyei announced that it has received nine civilians injured in the attack, eight of whom underwent lifesaving emergency surgeries. A specialized medical team has also been deployed to support the local hospital operated by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which is treating the majority of the wounded.
Meanwhile, field reports indicate that more civilians continue to flee to Abyei due to ongoing fighting in the area, raising concerns over worsening humanitarian conditions and increasing relief needs.
