The second Diocesan Synod of the Episcopal Diocese of Rokon concluded on Sunday with renewed calls for unity, peace, and collective responsibility among church leaders and the faithful.
Speaking at St. John Pro-Cathedral, Rokon, Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete Ezbon delivered a keynote address on behalf of Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria State. The Governor congratulated the Diocese for successfully organizing the Synod and urged residents to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence as foundations for development.
Commissioner Tete said state and county authorities are addressing insecurity linked to cattle herders, noting continued enforcement of a Presidential Order directing the return of cattle to their areas of origin to safeguard farmland and livelihoods. He warned political leaders and intellectuals against actions that could fuel division, stressing that unity is vital for peace and prosperity.
He also highlighted progress on the Juba–Mundri Road rehabilitation and appealed to the Rokon community to cooperate with UNMISS, including providing murram, to facilitate timely completion of the project.
In support of the Church and vulnerable groups, the Commissioner donated mattresses to Grace Orphanage in Rokon and a sound system to the Diocese to enhance worship services and church activities.
Meanwhile, Hon. Stephen Wani Michael called for closer coordination between Rokon Payam authorities and security forces to address threats posed by cattle herders. State MP Hon. Joyce Hadia Lino emphasized the importance of church ownership by the faithful, raised concerns over unresolved land demarcation affecting development projects, and reiterated the need to fully implement the Presidential Order on cattle return.
The Synod concluded with diocesan decrees appointing new church leadership for the next three years, signaling a renewed commitment to spiritual growth and community transformation
