South Sudan Secures Release of Eastern Equatoria Youth Detained in Ethiopia

South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced yesterday that it successfully secured the release of a group of youths from Eastern Equatoria State who had been detained in the Ethiopian city of Jimma. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs and the South Sudanese Embassy in Addis Ababa.


The ministry expressed its appreciation to all parties that contributed to the release, reaffirming its commitment to continue providing consular support to citizens whenever needed.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the ministry said the released youths are expected to arrive in Juba on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
The ministry did not disclose details regarding the circumstances of their detention, their number, their health conditions, the reasons for their presence in Ethiopia, or the duration of their detention, stating only that their release had been secured.
