The Juba City Council yesterday carried out a comprehensive cleaning campaign in the Buaba Lo area of Gudele, led by the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Waste Management, Stephen Lomude. The initiative comes as part of the council’s efforts to enhance community awareness on cleanliness and proper waste disposal practices.
During the campaign, the Deputy Mayor reaffirmed the council’s commitment to improving sanitation across various neighborhoods in Juba, noting that certain areas—particularly those under the Buaba Lo Gudele Bridge, where a number of homeless youths reside—pose health risks that require urgent intervention. Lomude stated that the council prioritizes creating a clean and healthy environment for all citizens, urging residents to use designated waste bins and refrain from dumping garbage on the streets. He stressed that violators would be subject to legal action.
The campaign saw the participation of organized forces and neighborhood committees to ensure effective implementation of the instructions and to promote cooperation among residents. Engineer Lazarus Lemi Chacha emphasized the important role engineers play in supporting the council’s efforts, highlighting their commitment to developing sustainable waste management solutions and improving the urban environment.
The campaign received widespread approval from the local community, with the Juba City Council calling on citizens to continue supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining neighborhood cleanliness and enhancing environmental awareness.
