The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) on Friday celebrated the induction of a new batch of air traffic control graduates into its ranks during an official ceremony held at the Authority’s headquarters in Juba. The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the country’s civil aviation sector.
The ceremony was attended by the Director General of SSCAA, Eng. John Woja Elinana, along with several senior officials, including Mr. Daffalla Habib Awongo, Director of Corporate Services; Mr. Lemi Peter Abdallah, Director of Air Navigation Services; and Mr. Bol Ring, Acting Manager of Air Traffic Management.
In his remarks, the Director General emphasized that the induction of this new cohort reflects the Authority’s firm commitment to training and empowering national professionals capable of managing modern air navigation systems, thereby ensuring enhanced safety and efficiency in South Sudan’s airspace operations.
This celebration follows the official graduation of 12 Air Traffic Controllers—including four pioneering women—on October 31, 2025, after completing an intensive nine-month professional training program at the East African School of Aviation (EASA) in Nairobi, Kenya. The training covered Approach Control, Aerodrome Control, and area control, in full compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and national training requirements.
The SSCAA affirmed that the inclusion of these newly qualified professionals into its operational workforce represents a significant boost to the country’s civil aviation services, supporting ongoing efforts to enhance airspace safety and expand air navigation capabilities in line with the rapid growth of South Sudan’s aviation sector. The Authority also highlighted that the participation of women in this field marks a notable achievement, demonstrating its commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women in the aviation industry.
The ceremony concluded with a reaffirmation of the SSCAA’s dedication to continuing investment in the training and development of national personnel, ensuring a safe, modern, and globally compliant aviation future for South Sudan.
