As part of her participation in the 75th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, South Sudan’s National Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, met with Dr. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, WHO Regional Director for Africa, on the sidelines of the ongoing events in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
In a post shared on her official Facebook page, the Minister highlighted the vital role WHO plays in supporting South Sudan’s health system, particularly in responding to public health emergencies such as cholera, measles, and other disease outbreaks.
Minister Cleto praised the technical and logistical support provided by WHO in the areas of case management, disease surveillance, and vaccination programs—support that has contributed directly to reducing the country’s case fatality rates.
She also expressed her deep appreciation for South Sudan’s partnership with WHO, reaffirming the government’s commitment to continued collaboration aimed at building a strong health system, improving infrastructure, and developing a well-trained health workforce.
The Minister concluded her statement with a call to ensure that South Sudan is not left behind, stating:
“With continued support, we can ensure access to quality healthcare for all citizens.”
