On Monday, August 25, the capital city of Juba hosted a high-level China–South Sudan Peace and Development Symposium, bringing together more than 30 scholars and representatives from research institutions in both countries. The event aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance dialogue on global and regional issues.

The symposium focused on three key themes: “Upholding the International Order, Fairness and Justice,” “Peace and Development,” and “Cooperation on Poverty Reduction and Human Rights Protection.” Participants engaged in lively discussions on how to bolster cooperation in these critical areas.

In her address at the symposium, Mrs. Huo Ying, Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan, noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global anti-fascist war. She expressed hope that the occasion would serve to deepen intellectual exchange and understanding between China and South Sudan, contributing to the building of a global community with a shared future.

Several senior officials from the Government of South Sudan delivered keynote speeches during the event, including Minister of Cabinet Affairs Martin Elia Lomuro, Minister of Trade and Industry Atong Kuol Manyang, and SPLM Deputy Chairperson Mary Apai Ayiga. They expressed their appreciation for China’s continued and comprehensive support for South Sudan and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and moving toward a broader strategic partnership.

The symposium concluded with a guided tour of a special photo exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The exhibition showcased key historical moments in the struggle for independence and liberation.
