Jonglei – Al-Wadi News
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has delivered four boats to the government of Jonglei State in a move aimed at supporting the local fisheries sector, enhancing economic opportunities for women, and strengthening law enforcement capacities in the state.
During the handover ceremony, the Governor of Jonglei State stated that three of the boats will be allocated to local fisherfolk to help expand their activities, improve food security, and promote sustainable fishing practices. He also noted that a fourth boat will be used to support security efforts by assisting authorities in monitoring fishing zones, protecting natural resources, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. An additional boat has been designated for use in health emergencies.

FAO representatives reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting sustainable development in South Sudan, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, and resource management. They emphasized that this initiative is part of FAO’s broader efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment and good governance in the fisheries sector.
It is worth noting that FAO is implementing multiple programs across South Sudan aimed at supporting local communities and achieving food security through sustainable development solutions.
