U.S. President Donald Trump met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss areas of cooperation and mutual benefits between the two countries.
With this visit, Modi becomes the fourth global leader to visit Donald Trump at the White House since his election as President of the United States.
The relationship between the two leaders has been described as a “strong friendship.” Modi stated that the visit was highly fruitful and that many areas of cooperation were discussed, ranging from energy to education, trade to technology, and artificial intelligence to space. Numerous issues were addressed.

One of the key issues discussed was Trump’s recently announced “reciprocal tariffs,” where he proposed imposing taxes equal to those foreign countries impose on U.S. goods.
Trump had previously criticized India for its high tariff rates on foreign goods, even calling Indian Prime Minister Modi the “king of tariffs.”
However, during the meeting between the two leaders at the White House, they announced that they would discuss a “framework” for greater cooperation.
Trump stated that he had agreed with Prime Minister Modi to enter into negotiations to address the contentious issues in the trade relations between the United States and India.
