Simba become South Sudanese Cup champions in Malakal at the expense of Super Eagle

Simba were crowned champions of this season’s South Sudan Cup competition in Malakal, after a 2-1 victory over Super Eagle. The final match of the tournament was played on Wednesday afternoon at Malakal Stadium.

The third division side defeated their first division rivals to win the cup for the first time in their history, and are set to represent Malakal Local Football Association in the upcoming South Sudan National Cup.

On their way to the final, Simba defeated Kudet FC by two goals without reply in the first round of the tournament. Then in the semi-finals, they beat Al-jel 5/4 on penalties after a 1/1 draw. They then beat Al Salam 2/1 in the quarter-finals of the tournament, before beating Abushok in the semi-finals.

The final match was graced by the Ministers of Infrastructure, Agriculture and Forestry in the Upper Nile State Government, as well as many others interested in sports in the state.

A number of Simba players took home most of the tournament’s prizes. In addition to the trophy, gold medals and a prize money of one million South Sudanese pounds.
