Lakes State Governor Participates in Honoring Archbishop Alapayo Manyang Ahead of His Official Retirement

The Governor of Lakes State, Rin Tweng Mapur, participated on December 28, 2025, in a public gathering held at St. Barnabas Cathedral in Rumbek, the main center of Lakes State in Bahr el-Ghazal, to extend his best wishes to His Grace Archbishop Alapayo Manyang Kuctiel Nhiera, Dean of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Archbishop of the Eastern Bahr el-Ghazal internal province, and Bishop of Rumbek Diocese.

Archbishop Alapayo Manyang is scheduled to officially retire after 72 hours.

During his speech, Governor Rin Tweng expressed his deep gratitude to Archbishop Alapayo Manyang and urged all the faithful and residents of Lakes State to pray for him as he transitions from his previous ecclesiastical role. He also called on the eleven bishops of the state to exercise wisdom and peacefully select a successor capable of continuing the exemplary leadership demonstrated by His Grace throughout his service.

In conclusion, Governor Rin Tweng reaffirmed his ongoing support for the church and expressed his intention to draw upon Archbishop Alapayo Manyang’s wisdom in addressing the major challenges within his administration. He also wished the attendees and the people of Lakes State a joyful and prosperous New Year in advance
