Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) continues its humanitarian efforts in the town of Leer, Unity State, by providing essential medical services to communities affected by conflict and violence. The organization first began its work in Leer in 1989 in response to a kala azar outbreak among displaced populations and added tuberculosis treatment in 1993.
During the civil war, the MSF hospital in Leer was looted and destroyed in 2014. However, the organization later rebuilt the facility and resumed providing vital medical care to local residents.

Currently, MSF’s services include primary and emergency healthcare, basic obstetric and newborn care, treatment for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, as well as antenatal and postnatal care, stabilization of critical cases, and referrals to Bentiu camp hospital. The organization also offers snakebite treatment, outpatient services for HIV and TB patients, and community-based healthcare and health promotion programs in remote areas.
Through these efforts, MSF reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that vulnerable populations in Unity State have access to free, high-quality healthcare.
