The Commissioner of Yei River County, Mr. Emmanuel Taban Seme, has inaugurated a five-day training program focused on rural development, with the participation of several representatives from local communities and relevant institutions. The training is organized by the County Department of Planning in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). It aims to equip community members with the skills needed to design and implement self-help development projects and to participate effectively in rural development initiatives.

During the opening ceremony, Commissioner Taban Seme emphasized the importance of the training and its role in promoting sustainable development. He stated, “Development begins within local communities. Programs like this provide citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to overcome challenges, make effective use of available resources, and contribute to improving livelihoods and building a better future for rural areas.”

For his part, Mr. James Wani Banja, Director of the County Department of Planning, urged participants to engage positively and make the most of the training content, saying, “I encourage participants to stay focused and actively involved, as change starts here, and through you, this knowledge will be transferred to your communities.”

In the same context, Samuel Taban, Regional Officer for the “Logo” Project at GIZ, explained that the project has been implemented in six counties across South Sudan. It focuses on strengthening the capacity of local administrations and civil society, including the management of rural councils and rural development efforts.

Christopher Taharir, Press Secretary in the Commissioner’s Office, stated that the workshop brings together 26 participants, including youth, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, traditional leaders, representatives from faith-based organizations, and persons with disabilities.

The training is expected to stimulate rural development efforts and foster a spirit of initiative among the people of Yei River County.
