On the Day of the African Child: Calls for Fair Budget Allocation for Children’s Rights in South Sudan

Juba – Al-Wadi Newspaper

On the occasion of the Day of the African Child, human rights organizations and civil campaigns have called on governments and relevant stakeholders to prioritize planning and allocate sufficient budgets to protect and promote children’s rights in South Sudan. This call comes amid ongoing challenges facing key sectors such as education, child protection, nutrition, and healthcare.

In this context, Plan International South Sudan issued a statement on its official Facebook page, affirming that “Investing in children is an investment in peace, development, and the future of the nation,” stressing that every child deserves a fair chance to grow, learn, and live with dignity.

Children-related sectors in South Sudan suffer from a severe lack of funding, exposing millions of children to growing risks—most notably school dropouts, malnutrition, and lack of access to basic healthcare—amid repeated calls for immediate action to change this reality.

The organization also launched a social media awareness campaign using the hashtags:
#DayOfTheAfricanChild
#Budget4Children
#ChildrensRights

This call is part of broader efforts to promote social justice for children and to reaffirm that the future of any nation begins with the care and protection of its children.
