Jamus Football Club has been crowned champion of the 14th edition of the South Sudan National Cup for the second consecutive time, following a 4-2 victory in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a goalless draw yesterday afternoon at Juba National Stadium.

This marks Jamus’ second title in the club’s history and their second in a row. Meanwhile, last season’s runner-up, Al-Merrikh, failed once again to exact revenge on their rivals, also falling in a penalty shootout.

Jamus’ successful penalty takers were George Rodriguez, Christian Theodore, Ghani Samir, and Ishaka Diarra. For Al-Merrikh, Mohamed Musa Al-Dhai and Pal Paul converted their shots, but Jamus goalkeeper Majak Mawith saved efforts from Chan Majak and Shoul Peter.

The final match was graced by the presence of Minister of Youth and Sports Joseph Geng Akec, a representative of the Central Equatoria State Government, and the President of the South Sudan Football Association.

Jamus dominated the tournament awards: Cameroonian defender Thomas Bawak was named Best Player, goalkeeper Majak Mawith won Best Goalkeeper, and Congolese coach Jean Claude received Best Coach in the tournament’s 14th edition. The Top Scorer award went to Al-Merrikh’s striker Chan David.

The South Sudan National Cup champion will represent the country in the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup, organized by the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).
