Speaker Ngere Discusses Development of Parliament’s Media Infrastructure

Juba – Alwadi Newspaper:

The Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Joseph Ngere Paciko, has discussed ways to develop the parliament’s media infrastructure with his three deputies during a high-level meeting held at the assembly headquarters in Juba. The meeting brought together the leadership of the council and the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmond Yakani.

The discussions focused on developing a comprehensive plan to enhance media coverage of parliamentary activities, including the establishment of a dedicated radio broadcasting system to air parliamentary sessions live. This step aims to expand public access to information and keep citizens informed.

Both sides explored the possibility of launching radio stations or dedicated broadcast channels that would allow the public to follow parliamentary sessions in real time. They also reviewed practical mechanisms for transitioning from limited information access to a more open and transparent model, helping to bridge the gap between the legislative institution and the public.

In a statement following the meeting, Yakani stressed the importance of this initiative, noting that its primary objective is to improve the flow of information related to the parliament’s role, functions, and legislative activities, thereby enhancing public awareness and participation.

These efforts come within a growing trend to strengthen transparency and accountability by enabling citizens to directly follow parliamentary proceedings.
