Juba – Al-Naeem Mubarak Kul
The Commissioner General of South Sudan’s Revenue Authority, Simon Akuei, has issued a stern warning to business owners and citizens against dealing with individuals claiming to represent the authority and requesting cash tax payments.
Akuei emphasized that all tax-related financial transactions must be conducted exclusively through accredited banks in Juba as part of the authority’s broader shift toward full automation and digitization of the tax collection system.
In a public statement, he said, “Sooner or later, we will reach 90% digitization in tax collection. Therefore, it is crucial to clarify that anyone approaching businesses to collect cash payments is a thief.
Payments should only be made through banks—not to individuals inside or outside offices.”
The Commissioner General also urged all taxpayers and stakeholders to immediately report any attempts to collect funds outside official channels, stressing that safeguarding public and private funds is a collective responsibility.
