In a move aimed at strengthening South Sudan’s agricultural sector, the government has purchased 104 tractors that will be distributed to farmers across the country.
While inspecting the agricultural equipment, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Hussein Abdelbagi Akol emphasized that these tractors will be delivered to farmers in various regions, stressing the importance of their commitment to achieving tangible results this farming season.
“These tractors will be handed over to the farmers, and we expect their full commitment to begin working seriously this season,” Akol stated.
He added that this initiative will significantly contribute to enhancing and increasing the country’s agricultural production.
In a related context, the government of South Sudan has declared this year as the “Year of Agriculture,” announcing that all revenues will be directed toward supporting agricultural production inputs.
This decision comes in light of the negative impact of the ongoing war in Sudan, which has severely affected oil production—the government’s primary source of revenue—causing a major blow to the national budget.
