South Sudan Bar Association Assesses Workshop on Its Role in the Country’s Political Transition

The South Sudan Bar Association, with support from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), organized a workshop on its role in the country’s political transition.

The Deputy Special Representative for South Sudan and Deputy Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in the country, Guang Cong, stated: “South Sudan’s progress toward democracy depends on the active and meaningful participation of legal professionals. They advocate for a transparent, inclusive, and democratic legal system, enhancing legal awareness among citizens to ensure their rights are protected. By upholding the rule of law and promoting democratic governance, legal professionals contribute to building a stable and just society.” He added that close cooperation with civil society and UNMISS is crucial for the success of this process. The Bar Association also called for increased inclusion of women in South Sudan’s electoral process
