South Sudan’s national basketball team has retained its position as the top-ranked team in Africa. This comes after the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced its latest rankings for February 2025.

The team, nicknamed the “Bright Stars,” secured 488 points, maintaining its position as Africa’s number one and ranking 23rd globally.

Following South Sudan in the African rankings are Côte d’Ivoire, Angola, Tunisia, and Egypt, occupying the second to fifth spots, respectively. Nigeria ranks sixth, followed by Cape Verde in seventh, Senegal in eighth, Cameroon in ninth, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo rounding out the top ten.

In terms of ranking changes, Magnolia made the biggest jump, climbing seven places, followed by Mali, which rose six places. On the other hand, Kuwait experienced the steepest drop, falling eight places, followed by Guam, which dropped six.

The United States leads the global rankings, followed by Serbia, Germany, France, and Spain. Canada ranks sixth, with Australia in seventh, Argentina in eighth, Latvia in ninth, and Lithuania in tenth place.

It is worth noting that the first-ever FIBA world rankings were introduced in 2010, with the United States leading the table at that time.
