UN Forces Commander Visits Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal

Juba/ AlNaeim Mubarak Kuol

The commander of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in South Sudan (#UNMISS) visited the city of Aweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal to discuss operational challenges with peacekeepers from #Nepal, especially regarding the impact of flooding and the volatile security situation in the region.

Due to Aweil’s proximity to the northern border with Sudan, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state hosts thousands of Sudanese refugees who fled armed conflict in Sudan.

This influx creates additional challenges for host communities and peacekeeping forces in providing services to the state’s residents.
