Press Statement from the Ministry of Health Regarding the Protest About Akobo County Hospital in Jonglei State

At the end of last year, the Ministry of Health began transitioning from the Emergency Response Project for COVID-19 and the Health System Readiness Project (CERSHPP) to the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP).

As part of this transition, all interested non-governmental organizations submitted proposals to provide a basic package of health and nutrition services through the United Nations portal.

The project management organization, UNICEF, oversaw this process, with Save the Children emerging as the implementing partner for batch 7, under which Akobo County Hospital falls.

When traveling to Akobo County Hospital to begin providing health services, the Akobo community, the county commissioner, and the county health administration rejected Save the Children, leading to a disruption in the delivery of health services, which has continued to this day.
