EU lends Cameroon $96 million to boost infrastructure

The European Union has pledged to lend Cameroon 91 million euros ($96 million) over the next three years to boost the West African country’s infrastructure and attract foreign investment.

The loan was announced during a meeting between the EU representative and Cameroonian government ministers in the capital Yaounde.

Cameroon’s Economy Minister Alamine Ousmane Me told reporters after the meeting that the loan would help Cameroon develop its energy sector, road infrastructure and a railway network linking the country to neighboring Chad.

Other projects funded by the European loan include the construction of a bridge over the Ntem River between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. …
