Torit, Eastern Equatoria State – 11 March 2026
The community of Hatire Payam on Wednesday met with the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, and presented a community-driven proposal to rehabilitate the Hatire–Torit road using locally available resources.
In a petition read by the community leadership, residents highlighted the availability of natural materials within the payam, including bamboo, teak, and mahogany, which they said could be utilized in maintaining and improving the road. The leaders emphasized that the initiative reflects the community’s willingness to support development efforts through locally mobilized resources.
Governor Lobong welcomed the proposal, describing it as a “brilliant idea,” and commended the Hatire community for demonstrating initiative toward improving local infrastructure.
However, the Governor advised that the community should follow the proper legal and administrative procedures through the relevant government institutions before utilizing the local resources. He noted that such natural resources are under government jurisdiction and must be used in accordance with established laws and regulations.
The Governor further reiterated his longstanding call for communities across Eastern Equatoria State to actively participate in development initiatives within their local areas.
He also underscored the importance of the Hatire–Torit road, noting that it plays a critical role in supplying Torit with food and other essential commodities from surrounding farming communities.
Governor Lobong encouraged continued collaboration between local communities and government institutions to ensure sustainable development and improved infrastructure across the state.
