The Minister of Information, Communications and Postal Services, Ateny Wek Ateny, held an expanded meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of the telecommunications companies operating in the country—MTN South Sudan, Digitel, and Zain South Sudan—to discuss the major challenges currently facing the telecommunications sector.
The meeting addressed a number of pressing issues, including tax policies, delays in shipments and equipment, constraints related to the availability of foreign currency, procedures for SIM card clearance, as well as ongoing efforts to promote digital and electronic payment systems in the country.
Participants emphasized the importance of prioritizing digital transformation and aligning tariffs in a way that balances the interests of companies and consumers. They also underscored the need to strengthen coordination to support sector stability and stimulate the growth of South Sudan’s telecommunications industry.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the National Communications Authority, Rizik Dominic Samuel, who stressed the importance of integration between regulatory bodies and service providers to ensure the development of a more efficient and sustainable telecommunications environment.
