- The Electoral Commission (EC) has cancelled the nomination of National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Mathias Walukaga, who had been cleared to contest for the Busiro East parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections.
- Walukaga, a popular musician turned politician, was nominated on October 24, 2025, under the NUP ticket as the opposition party sought to replace incumbent Medard Ssegona. Ssegona, a veteran lawyer who has represented the constituency since 2011, is defending the seat as an Independent candidate.
- The EC has not yet issued a detailed explanation for the cancellation, but the decision has triggered renewed political debate in Busiro East, where both candidates command strong support bases.
- The development comes amid heightened election activity ahead of the 2026 polls, with several constituencies experiencing nomination disputes and legal challenges.
