Displaced families from Nagero County in Western Equatoria State, currently sheltering in Kpaile Payam of Wau County, have received a fresh consignment of medical supplies funded through a community-led initiative in Juba, local authorities said on Thursday.

Karlo Albino Kpaile, the chief of Kpaile Payam, told Radio Tamazuj that the medicines—procured after a fundraising drive by the Western Equatoria Community in Juba—arrived together with other essential items. He said the supplies are expected to sustain the displaced population for at least three months.

“These medicines were delivered through the office of the governor of Western Equatoria State and handed over to the community’s office in Juba upon our request,” he explained. “We urgently needed drugs, and these donations will help us respond to the suffering of our people.”

Earlier this week, the Western Bahr el Ghazal State government also supported the displaced families and the host community with food and non-food items as they continue to cope with the effects of conflict-induced displacement.

Chief Kpaile appealed for further assistance from local traders and well-wishers, saying the displaced households still lack food, cooking utensils, clothing, and other basic necessities. While the arrival of medicine offers relief, he noted that overall humanitarian needs remain high.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has begun providing cash assistance to the IDPs to help them meet urgent needs.

The latest intervention marks a crucial step in addressing immediate health concerns and easing the strain on vulnerable families as they navigate increasingly difficult living conditions.
