President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan held a high-level meeting yesterday with members of the Economic Cluster to review the current economic situation in the country and outline plans aimed at achieving financial and monetary stability.
In a press statement following the meeting, Minister of Finance Athian Deng Athian said the discussions focused on macroeconomic stability and coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of South Sudan in the areas of fiscal and monetary policies. The meeting also addressed measures to ensure effective liquidity management and enhance transparency in public spending.
The Minister explained that the meeting emphasized the importance of controlling liquidity movement and stabilizing the foreign exchange market, while maintaining the value of the national currency. He further warned against the hoarding of local currency, stressing that such practices are illegal, and called on law enforcement agencies to take action against activities that disrupt cash flow in the market.
Athian added that the government is implementing initiatives aimed at restoring public confidence in the banking system and achieving overall economic stability.
In a related development, the Finance Minister announced the completion of salary payments for civil servants, confirming that members of the organized forces and employees in remote areas will receive their salaries in cash in the coming days.
