AU Commission Chairperson Meets Kenyan President on the Sidelines of COMESA Summit in Nairobi

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, met this afternoon with H.E. President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya, on the sidelines of the ongoing Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Summit held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

During the meeting, the Chairperson briefed President Ruto on the progress made in implementing the ongoing institutional reforms within the African Union, commending the Kenyan President’s leading role in supporting the reform agenda and praising his steadfast leadership on this vital issue.

For his part, President Ruto expressed his appreciation for the Chairperson’s efforts and unwavering commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the African Union, applauding the achievements made in strengthening the structures of the continental organization.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing efforts toward a more effective, sovereign, and responsive African Union, and agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in preparation for the upcoming Special Summit on Reforms, scheduled to take place in Luanda, Angola, this November.
