Political parties participating in the Revitalized Peace Agreement Forum have strongly condemned the recent surge in mob violence in Jonglei State, affirming their unwavering commitment to a “zero tolerance” policy toward such acts. They called for upholding the rule of law and rejecting all forms of chaos and thuggery.
In a press statement, political leader Wani Bum stated: “As political parties, we categorically reject mob violence. No to crime, no to theft, and no to any form of criminality. Justice must be pursued through legal channels, not by taking the law into one’s own hands.”
Bum described the perpetrators of the recent attack as “conscienceless enemies of the state,” warning that they would not be allowed to escape justice. He stressed that all legal measures would be taken to bring them to account.
He further urged all politicians and community leaders in Jonglei to unite against any attempt to revive acts of thuggery in the state, emphasizing the need to prioritize the state’s interests above personal or political agendas.
The political parties extended their condolences to the victim’s family and all affected individuals, assuring the people of Jonglei that they would continue working tirelessly with relevant authorities to ensure justice is delivered and peace restored.
In a statement issued by the parties, they said: “We pray that the souls of the victims rest in peace, and that their families and the people of Jonglei find strength, comfort, and unity during this difficult time.”
The parties also called on security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face full legal consequences, stressing the importance of enforcing the rule of law and holding those responsible for this “heinous criminal act” accountable.
In an official post shared by the Media Unit of the Office of the Governor of Jonglei State, the political parties reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Governor Riek Gai Kok and the state government in promoting community dialogue, strengthening social cohesion, and ensuring accountability—key steps toward a lasting and sustainable resolution to the conflict in Jonglei.
