Wau – Awadi Paper
The administration of Bahr El Ghazal University has announced the partial resumption of classes starting July 28, 2025, following a closure that began in June due to student protests on campus.
The closure was ordered by Prof. Kuel Maluil, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, in response to growing unrest among students that disrupted academic activities.
According to an official statement obtained by Aweil News Agency, the university will reopen its doors only to first-year and final-year students, as part of a phased plan to restore academic operations at the institution.
In a related development, the university has also cancelled admission interviews for new applicants, with the exception of those applying to the Colleges of Education, Medicine, and Public Health, where the process will continue on a limited basis.
The administration stated that these measures are aimed at ensuring the safe and organized return of students and maintaining academic stability, while addressing administrative and logistical challenges.
University officials expressed hope that this partial reopening will pave the way for a full resumption of classes in the near future, while also working to resolve student concerns in parallel with the academic restart.
