Juba: Al-Wadi
Al-Merrikh Bentiu reaffirmed their dominance over city rivals Bentiu City in the Bentiu Derby, winning a postponed Round 16 match of the championship yesterday afternoon at Buluk Playground. The game, featuring the traditional foes in the first leg of the Premier League, ended 2-0 in favor of Al-Merrikh.

Despite Bentiu City taking the lead with a goal from player Bol Gatiai, Al-Merrikh equalized through Samuel and then secured victory with a winning goal by Jack James. Bentiu City was forced to finish the match with ten men after Paul Gattiai, the scorer of their only goal, was sent off by the referee.

With this win, Al-Merrikh moved into sole possession of fourth place in the standings. They have one remaining match against Wajuma scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) at Juba National Stadium. A win in that match would see them climb to third place with 58 points, tying Holy Family Rumbek but overtaking them on goal difference. In the first-leg encounter, Al-Merrikh had won 2-0, while Holy Family claimed a 3-1 victory in the second leg.

This result raised Al-Merrikh’s points total to 55, securing fourth place, while Bentiu City remained at 22 points in 11th position.

With this emphatic victory, Jamus sits alone at the top of the league with 65 points. They have one remaining match against Al-Hilal Wau tomorrow (Saturday) at Juba National Stadium, which could seal the championship in its inaugural edition. Nile City, meanwhile, remains at the bottom with 5 points and has been officially relegated from the Premier League alongside Young Star Torit.
