The Indian Battalion, serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), organized a free veterinary camp in the Mwal Shat area of Bor town to commemorate World Veterinary Day. The event saw a large turnout from local residents who came to benefit from the free veterinary services.
🟢 1,250 Livestock Treated
During the camp, over 1,250 head of livestock received medical treatment. The battalion also distributed veterinary medicines and equipment to local herders, alongside providing guidance on disease prevention and herd health management.



🎙️ Governor Riek Gai Kok: We Need Effective Livestock Health Management
Dr. Riek Gai Kok, Governor of Jonglei State, praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of quality veterinary services in reducing livestock migration and the conflicts that often result. He also called for strict enforcement of anti-cattle theft laws, stressing that such steps are essential for stabilizing pastoral communities.
🌸 Parallel Women’s Awareness Activities
In a parallel initiative, female personnel from the Indian Battalion held awareness sessions for village girls and women on menstrual hygiene. They also distributed “dignity kits” to adolescent girls to help break societal taboos and boost self-confidence.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by UNMISS and its international partners to promote peace and community development through direct services that address local needs and support community stability in Jonglei State.
