Lightning Strike Claims Lives of Seven in Ulik Payam, Northern Bahr el Ghazal

Seven people lost their lives on Tuesday evening after a lightning strike hit the Ulik Payam area in Aweil Central County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, during a severe rainstorm that swept through the region.

According to local sources, among the victims were Akich Deng Athian, a 30-year-old woman, and her two children, aged 4 and 7. The lightning also claimed the lives of Akual Thek, 33, and her two children—one aged 4 and the other just 18 months old. Additionally, 9-year-old child Ajak Garang Wol was also among the deceased.

The tragic incident has caused widespread grief among the local community, prompting calls from residents and concerned authorities to strengthen safety measures during the rainy season.

As of now, no detailed official statement has been released by the authorities, though support is expected to be provided to the victims’ families in the coming days.
