Terekeka – Al-Naeim and Mubarak Kuol
The United Nations Development program (UNDP), in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment in South Sudan, concluded a workshop to launch the project titled “Enhancing the Capacities of the Government and Communities in South Sudan for a Climate-Resilient Future” in Terekeka County. The workshop included the participation of 30 representatives from government entities and local communities.

Participants included representatives from the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, youth organizations, and the departments of agriculture and forestry in the county. Also present were representatives from the departments of gender affairs, water resources, livestock and fisheries, in addition to the Women’s Association and several local stakeholders.
The workshop reviewed the objectives of the project and its implementation plan, emphasizing the importance of involving local stakeholders, ensuring the integration of gender issues, preserving the environment, and promoting social cohesion.
The UNDP reaffirmed its commitment to the principle of “leaving no one behind,” stressing that the beneficiary selection process would ensure inclusivity and fairness, targeting youth, women, former combatants, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities.
The workshop also featured a symbolic initiative—tree planting—to mark the start of efforts to restore 16,000 hectares of degraded land and promote climate-smart agriculture.
This project is supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
