In a statement published by Al-Maugif electronic newspaper, General Oyai Deng Ajak affirmed that the ruling regime in South Sudan has lost its credibility on both the local and international levels. He stressed the importance of engaging citizens in a serious national dialogue to discuss the country’s future.
Ajak stated that the time has come to raise collective voices, calling for societal reform through rationality and a sense of responsibility. He added, “As leaders who fought for liberation, we cannot stand by and watch our sacrifices and the blood of our martyrs being wasted due to elite tribal factions, corruption, and betrayal of our beloved nation’s principles.”
Ajak warned that recent developments in South Sudan represent a major concern, noting that the country is on a stumbling path that requires urgent intervention from all segments of society.
He pointed out that “the complete collapse of the current political system is evidence of the government’s failure to represent the will of the people,” calling for discussions to establish an inclusive and accountable government that truly embodies the aspirations of the citizens.
The general also expressed concern over the increasing militarization of civil society, noting that failed military campaigns and the lack of a unified national army have created serious challenges threatening the country’s future. He said, “We must stop recruiting tribal militias and instead work on building a national army that represents all components of South Sudan.”
Ajak also addressed international relations, pointing to the United States’ threat to close its embassy in Juba, while some European countries have already closed their embassies. This reflects the extent of the deterioration of the country’s image on the international stage.
Ajak concluded his statement by calling on all national parties to unite in order to restore the dignity of the people and save the nation from collapse.
