In a remarkable sports and humanitarian gesture, South Sudan’s national football team coach, Hong Si Lim, has announced his full commitment to training the country’s national blind football team in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
Dual Support for National Teams
Lim, who has coached the national team for years, stated that he will simultaneously support and develop the blind football team, emphasizing the importance of inclusive participation in sports.
“Currently, I continue coaching the senior national team, but I am also committed to providing technical and training support to the blind team so they are ready to compete in the upcoming Olympics,” the coach said during a press interview.
Donations and Partnership with Paralympic Committee
The coach’s announcement came after he donated sportswear to the blind team, a gesture that was warmly welcomed. This move is part of ongoing collaboration with the South Sudan Paralympic Committee, which helped establish the team and launch the country’s first official blind football league.
First Blind Football League in South Sudan
In April 2023, South Sudan held its first-ever blind football league, a groundbreaking event aimed at empowering visually impaired athletes and providing a platform for them to qualify for international competitions.
Specialized Techniques for the Game
Blind football matches use balls and goalposts equipped with audio signals to help players locate the ball and goal during play, ensuring a fair and safe competitive environment.
Toward Participation in the 2028 Olympics
South Sudan’s blind football team is aiming to make its official Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, with growing support from both international and local sports authorities.
