The spokesperson for the office of the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition, clarified that the movement has not suspended its participation in the mechanisms for implementing the peace agreement.

Fok Booth Balwang, the acting press secretary, stated in a press release that the office of the First Vice President and the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement in Opposition, Riek Machar Teny, wishes to clarify that the movement has not suspended its participation in the peace implementation mechanisms. However, the detention of its representatives, along with the unavailability of other members due to harassment and the overall unfavorable environment, has led to the paralysis of several mechanisms.

The statement directed all representatives of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition who serve in the peace implementation mechanisms to continue carrying out their assigned duties. Fok said, “We urge all security agencies such as the National Security Service (NSS) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army Intelligence (MI) to stop all forms of harassment directed at our members to ensure their ability to perform their assigned duties effectively.”
