The Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Merial Dungrin Ater, met with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Anita Kiki Kabeho, who also holds the position of the UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs. They discussed the overall humanitarian situation in South Sudan.
The meeting addressed the recent closure of activities by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) globally, followed by a reduction in funding from the U.S. government, and its impact on the work of UN agencies and humanitarian organizations.

The UN Resident Coordinator highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian support to meet the needs of vulnerable groups in South Sudan, including internally displaced persons, refugees affected by the conflict in Sudan, communities devastated by floods and drought, as well as those affected by internal conflicts within the country.
Minister Dungrin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to mobilize the necessary funding to address the multiple shocks affecting the country.
