Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Reaffirms Protection of Humanitarian Workers

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the Transitional National Unity Government reaffirmed the protection of humanitarian workers and their property. This came during his meeting with the new head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Mr. Mohammed Babiker, who replaced Mr. Papa Moussa in South Sudan.
John Lobor, the Secretary-General of the South Sudan Red Cross, introduced the new head of the Federation’s Cluster for South Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Mr. Babiker expressed his appreciation to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for the smooth coordination and cooperation with partners in South Sudan, and promised to work with the government of South Sudan to deliver necessary services to those in need.
Minister Akol expressed his appreciation for the role of humanitarian agencies, including the South Sudan Red Cross, and briefed Mr. Mohammed Babiker on the humanitarian crises in South Sudan. He reassured the head of the delegation that the government of South Sudan is committed to protecting humanitarian workers and their properties.
Minister Albino Akol called on the international community and partners to continue supporting vulnerable people affected by the floods and the Sudanese conflict.
