Report: Alnaeim Mubarak Kuol

UNMISS military observers organized a friendly football match with the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces in Yambio, Western Equatoria, under the mission’s theme #PeaceBeginsWithStrengtheningSocialBondsThroughSports.

The mission distributed sports equipment and presented gifts to promote unity. Brigadier General Gatouy Duol of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces said, “When we engage in activities like this, it gives people hope for a prosperous future.”

Colonel Mohammed Shamsul, Senior Military Observer at the UNMISS office in Yambio, added, “Peace begins with each one of us. It must come from our hearts and minds, and we must build our activities on that foundation.”

Jane Lanyero Kony, Head of the UNMISS office in Yambio, recalled a conference held last year that brought together military commanders from Western Equatoria for the same purpose.

“The dialogue from that event yielded positive results, allowing both UNMISS and the military to carry out their mandates effectively. Today’s activity is another step toward achieving lasting peace.”She said.
