In a separate development, this week, WHO, South Sudan, the World Health Organization African Region, and the UN Office organized a training of trainers on Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS).
Following this training, the trainers will support the implementation and use of EIOS in South Sudan to improve event-based surveillance through media monitoring from multiple sources, including radio listening. This is the first trial of its kind in the African region.
The trainers were equipped with the skills needed to effectively utilize these open sources in their surveillance efforts.
The training was funded by the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA).
