The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairman of the National Water Committee, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, held an important meeting with the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Val Mai Deng, and representatives from key development partner organizations, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of flood mitigation initiatives and community projects implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with its partners in the states of Jonglei, Unity, and Upper Nile.


Representatives from IOM and WFP provided an overview of their activities for 2024, strategically designed to enhance community resilience and support flood mitigation strategies. They also highlighted their joint efforts with government institutions, emphasizing initiatives such as land reclamation through dam construction in Unity State, improving local infrastructure, and vital interventions to sustain the livelihoods of affected populations.
Additionally, the partners presented their 2025 plan, which focuses on the most flood-affected areas, with special attention given to the Duk and Twic East counties in Jonglei State, ensuring the implementation of targeted and effective interventions.


This meeting underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing the flood challenges in South Sudan and strengthening partnerships with international organizations to protect vulnerable communities.
