President Salva Kiir Mayardit sent a written message to his Kenyan counterpart, President William Ruto, the mediator in the Tumaini peace negotiations between the Government of South Sudan and opposition groups rejecting the 2018 peace agreement.
The written message was delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc, to President William Ruto at the State House on Monday. The content of the message between the two leaders has not been disclosed.

The opposition groups stated in a press release that the Tumaini initiative has reached a deadlock, with the spokesperson for the opposition coalition, Lual Dau, blaming the delegation of the Transitional Government of National Unity.
Kenya is playing a mediation role in the Tumaini peace negotiations between the conflicting parties in South Sudan.
