The Red Cross Organizes Awareness Campaigns to Increase Awareness of Cholera Outbreak

In response to the cholera outbreak declared by the Ministry of Health in South Sudan, the South Sudan Red Cross, Upper Nile State branch, launched a widespread campaign to raise awareness among local communities in Malakal, the state capital.

The Red Cross team in Malakal distributed hand-washing facilities, Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), and chlorine tablets to several schools in the state capital, including Dr. John Garang Boys’ School, Vision Academy, Malakia School, and St. Lwanga School, where students were sitting for their national secondary exams. Additionally, volunteers conducted awareness sessions for students and staff on preventive measures and how to use Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS).

The Red Cross stated that similar initiatives will be implemented in different parts of the country in collaboration with authorities and partners, particularly in areas experiencing a cholera outbreak.
