In a separate meeting, the First Vice President met with the Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, His Excellency Roar Hogsdal. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest, including the Financial Management Act and the recurring abduction of women and children in some parts of the states and between different regions of the country.
The First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, reaffirmed the government’s efforts to find solutions to these negative activities. He added that there is a need to implement major development projects such as schools, hospitals, and roads to reduce the ongoing insecurity in the Piabur area, Jonglei State, and other regions that are experiencing abductions and other crimes.
The discussions also covered the ongoing war in neighboring Sudan and how to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
In a statement to the press after the meeting, His Excellency Hogsdal reassured that his government is committed to supporting peace in both South Sudan and Sudan. He added that Norway is a friend of South Sudan and will continue to support the country in its quest for lasting peace.
