The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Upper Nile State, Malakal, organized a training workshop to build the capacities of local journalists, active members of civil society organizations, and government officials responsible for the protection and respect of child rights in the state.

The workshop focused on the importance of monitoring and reporting abuses related to armed conflict. Mary Nyalong Kiir, who participated in the workshop as a representative of the Ministry of Child and Social Welfare in Upper Nile State, stated, “Parties to conflicts must put an end to the recruitment of children, as they belong in classrooms, focused on their education, not on the battlefield.”
The training workshop provided valuable information on how to address issues related to violence against women and children, report them, and protect them from all forms of serious violations.

UNMISS Child Protection Officer Faria Murimhwa reaffirmed the mission’s ongoing commitment to supporting South Sudan’s efforts to end these practices by collaborating with all institutions to enhance capacity and raise awareness among stakeholders and local communities.
