Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Koul
South Sudan celebrated World AIDS Day yesterday, with participation from the Vice President for Service Cluster, Mr. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, who addressed the event organized in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), international and national civil society organizations, and relevant community-related security forces.
The WHO estimated, in a statement on its Facebook page, that 160,000 people are living with HIV in South Sudan under challenging circumstances.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme: “Take the Right Path”, aiming to prevent falling into the trap of HIV infection.
The Government of South Sudan, through the Ministry of Health and international partners, is making significant efforts to combat the virus. Local community leaders play a crucial role in raising awareness about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
A network of people living with HIV has been established, involving teachers, community health workers, and local civil society organizations, who play pivotal roles in combating this disease.
Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi called for enhanced cooperation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating AIDS in communities across the country.
